HAPPY HOLIDAYS!

The last few weeks in 7th grade we have been working on Boolean operators (also called Boolean logic) for internet searches. AND, NOT, and "" can narrow searches while OR and * can broaden searches. There is a test at the end of the two classes which can either be retaken or made-up during REAL time Tuesday or Thursday.

Sixth grade worked on internet domains including .com, .org, .gov, .edu, and .net. If you'd like to review what these domains stand for, go to the following website and enjoy doing the puzzle.

AND, don't forget to keep reading those contests books!

Weekly Update

Our contest, Peruse the Pa’rus, is going great with one student already qualifying and others close behind! The contest runs through January, so there are still plenty of reading days left!

In our library classes this week we are learning about internet safety. Remember to remain anonymous on-line, don’t give out you password, don’t include your full name on your password, don’t meet an internet buddy in person without your parents’ permission, be really careful sending and receiving photos, and don’t open emails from unknown senders.

We watched some videos in class which can be found at: www.brainpop.com (search for “internet safety” – that module is free) and www.netsmartz.org.

Welcome to the Fossil Ridge Intermediate School Library and Media Center!

Our library is open from 7:15 a.m. until 2:15 p.m. This week we've been going "low tech" as we've gone over some rules and procedures. In summary, here they are:

  1. Overdue books accrue a daily fine of five cents
  2. Students are allowed to check out two non-text books
  3. Books are checked out for ten school days and can be renewed after that time if the books is brought to the library
  4. Fines and or the replacement cost of the book may be assessed for damage
  5. Enjoy reading and come see us often!
Next week we'll learn more about the electronic catalog and how to locate books and other materials in our library.

Stay tuned for our upcoming contest "Peruse the Pa'rus". It's going to be a good one!!
